The Truth of who we are literally scares the hell out of us. And the Truth of who we really are is something that we must discover/Realize for ourSelf. No one can do it for us. Someone else's discovery is of no use to us, but if we Love and Trust the One who points us to this Realization, then we have a big brother, as it were, cheering us on. The True Teacher/Guru will not abandon you, nor let you down; only you can do that.
